Local – only advertising in one area, small businesses, single stores or local grocery stores
Ex. Calgary Co-op only advertises in Calgary Spacing in the ad is limited because Coop is trying to get you to come in for as many products as possible. § |
This ad is only relevant in Calgary, where there would be perspective buyers listening.

National – Advertising that is seen nation wide, but is specific to one country
Ex. Specific super bowl ads are only shown in the USA
Phone Companies use online ads to bring you to the correct page for you depending on your province
Banner ads give you just enough information to want to click on them to find more, usually less is more for a banner ad.
This is another example of a banner ad. When I clicked on it, I was directed to the AB Telus Mobility site. Give it a try!

Do a quick search for a product. Who do you think this product is targeted to? Talk with your neighbour and see if they think the same as you.
In class assignment:
Pretend that you are an advertiser creating an ad for a certain product (to be determined by random groupings). Create one ad that you think would grab your target markets attention. Remember to use your knowledge of the elements of design to create this ad. The brainstorming stage will be a group discussion, but you will be required to create and produce the ad yourself using photoshop.
You will have 2 classes to complete this assignment so use your time wisely.
Scenarios and grading rubric can be found on the Google Drive here.
Once you have finished your advertisement, save it as a .JPEG and upload it to your Weebly site. Make sure that you enable commenting. At the end of the second class you will be required to comment on someone else's creation and give 2 stars and a wish criticisms. Students are encouraged to give more than the basic comment to their peers.
